Event Description

The past meets the present at the Dallas Heritage Village "crossroads."
Join us for the 2nd annual Texas Crossroads Festival,
a family event filled with music, games, heritage, crafts and fun!

THE MUSIC...
Dusty Cornelius Biscuit and Buford Methuselah Biscuit, better known as The Biscuit Brothers, have been hard at work on Old Macdonald's Magical Musical Farm. Buford has been planting new instruments and Dusty has been practicing his monkey dances for their upcoming performances at the Texas Crossroads Festival. (Performances on the Main Street Stage at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.)

Ready for a little rock 'n roll with your Celtic music? Get set for
NeedFire, modern rockers with deep Celtic roots, fire-driven instrumentals and hard-rocking songs. Based in Texas and last seen at the Village during Candlelight, this nationally-touring Celtic-rock band combines an award-winning bagpiper and Celt-rock fiddle with electric guitars, bass and drums to create a unique mix of original songs and traditional Celtic music. (Performances on the Bandstand at 3 p.m.)

Village favorite
The New Hokum Boys returns to delight families with their own special style of bluegrass and down home country. Drawing on traditions of early 20th century music, this group is so committed to performing songs like they would have been done "back in the day," that they've been known to even break out the jug and washboard. (Performances on the Bandstand at Noon and 2 p.m.)

Stop by the Pilot Grove Church for a 19th century sing-a-long with the Village's favorite pianist, Cindy Lane.

THE STORIES...
Passing history from one generation to the next through stories has kept many cultures alive throughout the world. The Dallas Storytelling Guild is group of professional storytellers who will be sharing tales of Texas in the Renner School House. These spinners of yarns perform throughout the country.  Locally, these folks can often be seen at the Bath House Cultural Center as well as storytelling festivals in Denton, Frisco and the Village's own Legends, Yarns and Fables Storytelling Festival on May 3, 2008 (more details soon).

THE GAMES...
Traditional carnival games like fish-for-a-prize, grand prize game, hopscotch, potato sack races, stick pony races, horseshoe throwing contests and more...

Plus...see a real 1861 croquet game with costumed characters.

THE HERITAGE...
Learn about the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago from the residents of the Village. How did it effect Dallas? Who got to go? What were some of the new inventions? What was it REALLY all about?

Be a witness to the gun fight that breaks out on Main Street when a nice, friendly game of cards at the Alamo Saloon turns ugly.

1840 to 1910 costumed characters throughout the Village.

Carriage rides with Nip and Tuck, the Village's Mammoth Jack Donkeys.

Craft demonstrations at the Potter's Shed and Blacksmith shop.

THE CRAFTS...
The Texas Crossroads Arts and Crafts Sale will be in the middle of the action inside the Chautauqua Pavilion. Shop early for those holiday gifts or pick up a nice bauble for yourself.

Don't miss the Dallas Heritage Village Guild Bake Sale for a tasty treat!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I am a vendor and would be interested in displaying my craft or art at the festival. Is that possible?
A: Yes! We are having the Crossroads Craft and Art Sale at the festival. Booth space will be in the Chautauqua Pavilion, in the center of the festival. Space is limited, so get your application in today! CLICK HERE for a vendor application. Prices and details are listed on the application.

Q: Where do I park?
A: There is plenty of free parking at Dallas Heritage Village.

Q: Can I bring in my own food?
A: Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic to share with your family under the trees or at a picnic table in Nancy's Garden, inside the Village just past the Blum House. Drinks and snacks are also available at the Ticket Office.

Q: Will there be any music for adults at the festival?
A: You bet!  What would the Texas Crossroads Festival be without lots of music?  The New Hokum Boys return to the Bandstand with their own style of bluegrass and down home country, complete with banjo, ukulele, jug and washboard.  Then enjoy the amazing mix of high energy rock with the traditional Irish and Scottish sounds of Needfire.  Stop by the Pilot Grove Church for a 1893 gospel sing-a-long.

Q: Can I bring my dog?
A: Sure, as long as Fido is on the leash and stays outside of the historic buildings. Petmoms and Petdads must scoop any "contributions" left on the lawn - we have doggie bags available at Nancy's Garden, inside the Village just past the 1901 Blum House.
