Is there some kind of schedule for the day?
Almost everything is self-guided and self-paced and will be going on throughout the day. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will probably be a few things that do not happen for that entire time. But there will be plenty for you to do no matter when you arrive! A more specific schedule will be posted by September 1, and you will receive a program on the day of the event.

What do I do when I arrive at Dallas Heritage Village?
When you arrive at Dallas Heritage Village, check in at Guest Services. You will receive a packet containing your tickets for the museum, maps, a program, and other related information. If you registered with the Group Registration Form, your packet will be under your group’s name. Family Registrations will be under your last name.

The Program

What are some of the topics that will be covered by the theme Presidential Campaigns?
We'll be exploring the stories of the candidates.  In 1860, there were four men fighting to become President: Lincoln, Bell, Breckinridge, and Douglas.  In 1900, William McKinley and William Jennings Bryan battled for the White House again, but the race was exciting with the very interersting Vice-Presidential candidate, Teddy Roosevelt.  In addition, we'll be discussing some of the issues of the day.  Can the union remain as one as long as slavery remains?  Should America become involved with politics in other countries?  Is the econmic system fair for all people?  Soem of these questions are ones we still battle with today, and during this event, you'll begin to connect the present with the past.

What are some of the ways these questions will be asked and answered during the event? Dallas Heritage Village has 38 buildings, many of which will have signs inside of them discussing the elections of 1860 and 1900. In addition, our historic characters will be discussing their thoughts on the issues of 1860 and 1900.  We’re designing new History Hunts that focus on Presidential Campaigns just for this event. Hands-on activities will be scattered throughout the grounds. For this event, we have special partners, including The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, who will also have activities to try.
