REGISTER FOR VILLAGE ACADEMY SUMMER 2008 TODAY!

Village Academy invites your child to step into the past. Classes are designed for children ages 4 to 11 and take approximately 2 hours. All classes begin at 10 a.m. Space is limited, so register early!

Dallas Heritage Village members receive a $2 discount on each registration. (Only one discount per membership.) Each family that signs up for 5 or more classes receives a $2 discount on each registration. (Only one discount per family.)

Registration begins June 1.

Summer 2008 Classes for Ages 9 to 11

Sewing Circle Learn some basic stitches with Mrs. Kennedy so you can start your own cool creations! Dates: Tuesday, July 15 Tuesday, August 5 Cost: $20

Properly Entertained Learn the proper etiquette and behavior of young ladies and gentlemen of the 19th century! Mrs. Blum will teach proper manners and old-time dances you should know! Dates: Thursday, July 17 Thursday, August 7 Cost: $14

Wooly Weaves Spin, dye and weave your way through as you explore the wondrous uses for wool with our Village craftsman! Dates: Tuesday, July 22 Tuesday, August 12 Cost: $20

All of Your Business Learn how to run the Blum Store with Mr. Schmidt and see how much cash you can help him make for the day! Dates: Saturday, July 26 Saturday, August 9 Cost: $14

Advanced Pottery Join our Village craftsman and explore even more about pottery in this class! Try your hand at the wheel and experiment with advanced techniques. (Appropriate for first-timers and past Basic Pottery participants.) Dates: Tuesday, July 29 Tuesday, August 19 Cost: $20

Chuck Wagon Trails Set up camp like in the Old West and cook a pioneer style breakfast with our wagon master and Village craftsman! Dates: Thursday, July 31 Thursday, August 21 Cost: $20

Pottery Basics Learn basic pottery techniques from our Village craftsman! Dates: Thursday, July 17 Saturday, August 16 Cost: $20

Technological Wonders Explore all the neat machines at the Village! Grind coffee, visit a 1901 print shop and learn about the “latest” technological wonders in turn-of-the-century Dallas. Dates: Saturday, July 19 Saturday, August 2 Cost: $14

Animal Antics Wouldn’t a sheep, cow, or chicken in your backyard be cool? Get a taste of country life by taking care of ours! Dates: Tuesday, July 22 SOLD OUT Tuesday, August 12 Cost: $14

Viva Texas! Learn about Tejano culture in Texas during the 19th century with Mrs. de Léon, our bi-lingual historic interpreter! Help her with some everyday tasks and make a special craft to take home. Dates: Saturday, July 26 Saturday, August 9 Cost: $14

Cut a Rug! Ever think you could make your own cool carpet for your room or house? Learn how from Mrs. Kennedy! Dates: Tuesday, July 29 Tuesday, August 19 Cost: $14

Keeping Cool How did people survive the hot summer days before air conditioning? Decorate a paper fan and try some ice cream made the old-fashioned way! Dates: Thursday, July 31 Thursday, August 21 Cost: $14

Summer 2008 Classes for Ages 6 to 8

Clay Creations Learn some basic pottery techniques from the Village potter. Make your own clay creation to take home! Dates: Saturday, July 12 Thursday, August 7 Cost: $20

Traditional Tejano Tales Hear some traditional Tejano tales at the Section House with Mrs. de Léon. Help with some everyday tasks and make a special craft to take home! Dates: Saturday, July 19 Saturday, August 2 Cost: $14

Mind Your Manners One of our most popular classes! Learn all about proper etiquette at a fancy Victorian tea party. Dates: Thursday, July 24 Thursday, August 14 Cost: $14

To Market, To Market! Learn about different jobs people had downtown! Explore the General Store, the Bank and the Print Shop, where we will make our own shop sign! Dates: Tuesday, July 15 Tuesday, August 5 Cost: $14

Animal Farm! Help take care of the animals at Dallas Heritage Village! Visit chickens, sheep and the Village cow, Lucy. Make a fun animal craft to take home! Dates: Thursday, July 24 Thursday, August 14 Cost: $14

Reservation and Cancellation Policy

• Registration begins June 1. Payment (check, Visa, Mastercard, or American Express) is due when the reservation is made. You must register at least 1 week in advance.
• All classes have a required minimum. The musuem will cancel classes if the minimum has not been reached one week prior to the class date. You will receive a full refund or you may transfer to another class if space is available.
• If you wish to cancel your reservation, you must do so no later than one week prior to the class start date. You will receive a full refund, less a $3 per registration handling fee. If you cancel within one week of the class, you will not receive a refund.
