Programs Designed for Your Scouts

 

Visit Dallas Heritage Village with your pack or den and experience history. We believe in living history, and as a part of that mission, we offer a variety of hands-on programs for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of all ages. Activities are aligned with various Boy Scout and Cub Scout achievements and electives. Dallas Heritage Village does not provide Boy Scout patches, belt loops or pins. For easy reference, download our Boy Scout Programs Flyer.

 

Boy Scout Programs

Workshops are $15 per scout, 1 free adult for every 5 scouts; additional adults are $7 each. A $90 deposit must be paid at the time of booking in order to reserve your spot.  Pack, dens, or troops can be combined to meet the minimum. Workshops last between 1 ½ to 2 hours.

 

A BOY’S LIFE

What was life like for a boy your age in the nineteenth century? Explore the Farmstead and a Victorian home to find out! Then try your hand at rope making and learn to tie some basic knots.

 

FINDING YOUR WAY

What would we do without cars and trucks? Explore how early Dallas citizens traveled by foot, train and donkey in order to get around!

History Hikes (ages 6 and up)


GUIDED TOURS

$8 per Boy Scout, 1 free adult for every 5 scouts; additional adults are $7 each. Explore history with a guided tour during these special History Hikes just for Scouts!  A $48 deposit must be paid at the time of booking in order to reserve your spot.  Tours last 1 – 1 ½ hours. Tours can be adapted to any age level. A Dallas Heritage Village History Hike patch may be purchased for $3 each.

How did people listen to music before i-Pods? Did people talk on the phone? Who had the first indoor bathroom in Dallas? Explore cutting edge nineteenth century technology during a guided tour!


Past Times and Games

Explore the lives of Victorian boys by playing some old-fashioned Victorian games, exploring a nineteenth century school house and visiting a fancy Victorian home!


The Wild Frontier

Explore life in the wilds of North Texas! Learn about farming, livestock and the everyday life of a boy during pioneer times.


 

SELF-GUIDED TOUR

$7 per Boy Scout, 1 free adult for every 5 scouts, add’l adults are $7 each

 

Explore the historic village on your own. All Boy Scouts will receive a History Hike Scavenger Hunt and the History Hike Patch.

The Fine Print:

Workshop size is limited to a minimum of 6 Scouts and a maximum of 20 Scouts. Troops can be combined to meet the minimum. Tour size is limited to 25 Scouts. Touring time of the entire museum may not be a part of your chosen workshop. After the workshop is completed, you are more than welcome to tour the rest of the museum.

Registration Details

Workshops and Hikes are only conducted during regular museum hours and must be booked at least three weeks in advance. Please remember, we are an outdoor museum.
